We're gonna get tropical. We're gonna get tropical. Welcome back the other episode of Make Every Death Count, brought you by the Slashing Cast podcast Network. We are your hosts. My name is Riley, my name is Nick. He mean, how you doing this week? Harley's going, I'm fine. Forest fires are really starting to make their way down here. Um, did you know that only you can prevent a forest fire? Really, so get your ass up to Canada. Yeah, it's funny because not seeing so many people like in America complaining about it, like me, it's like kind of can't breathe out here. It's like, yeah, well, at least you're not in the damn fire. It is. It is bad though, like right now, like you can't even see like the clouds in the sky. Yeah, it's just full of smoke. Let's hell of smoggy. Out there. Yeah, I feel real bad for the people that are, like in cities that already have smog. Now you're just getting really getting plummeted. Yeah, we're it's not used to that down here in the Middlewest. Yeah, we keep our air clean here. It's for Chicago, true, Detroit, Chicago. That's it that we're out and we got cities beyond that. But Cincinnati, if you will, I won't, Cleveland, I won't, Green Bay absolutely not Milwaukee, No, Minneapolis. Who do you ever realize that, you know, you can kind of see the outline of your biggest cities, your Chicagos, you're in New York's. Actually it's about it. I don't know if you'd recognize the outline the what am I trying to say, skyline? I don't know if you recognize the skyline of like Los Angeles or any other city. Really it's like Chicago, New York. That's just because we have big ass towers that stand like specific like Willis Tower and now what would be ground zero? Um, what do they what replace ground zero? Or road places? The Twin Towers, the World Trade Center, Well there's that zero or one? I don't Yeah, I forgot what they call it. I mean there's a memorial there, but like they built a new tower. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I've been to ground zero. It's pretty cool. I mean as far as like skylines go, you just put the Hollywood sign up, right, But yes, that would that would probably give it a space needle in Seattle. Yeah, the arch in Saint Louis want to go to Saint Louis. I mean you can say that pretty much about any city. True. I don't know why. This is how this episode started. I was just asking you how you were doing, and then it went to forest Fires said, fine, have you done it? You watched done anything last week? Yeah? I have. I got my letter backs up. I don't remember the last movie that I said I watched. Um, I watched We Have a Ghost. Oh yeah, did you like it? I watched it. It was fine, Yeah, I didn't really like it. It was okay. Yeah. Um I watched Cocaine Bear. Oh, and It's I did not enjoy it. I went in exactly knowing exactly what it was and still didn't like it. Um damn. I have it as my lowest rated movie of the year below Sick Blow sick huh Yeah, okay, yeah, Cocaine Beard. I thought I'd like it. It wasn't fun enough. I guess not. I still haven't watched it all the way through. Man, I did watch for movie night. The other night we were watching bad movies, so I watched I'm a Straight remake, so that was rough, and then I watched ATM You Ever Seen at M with Josh Peck with what should have been an Oscar worthy performance from Josh Peck and ATM nine movie sucks. And then after that we watched ghost Ship. Oh another great one. Yeah it was. It was a bad night. Yeah, it was a theme. Ghost Ship wasn't. Yeah, it's really not bad. Yeah, the opening seems great and then yeah, mad, yeah falls off a little bit, but you know whatever, fun goat that one. Chick might be one of the hottest chicks I ever seen in my entire life. I totally forgot that she gets naked in that movie, and then I was completely caught up guard. I was like, oh, there she is, and then I looked it up. I looked her up to see if there was more of said performances, and there's not. She's only the nudity one time, and it was in ghost Ship. At least is he knew. That's what they told me. That's where I get alto. Yeah, reliable source. I also watched Inside with Willem Dafoe and just Willem Dafoe, the animated movie Inside. No, that's inside out, Yes, what is inside? It's William Dafoe is an art thief and he gets trapped inside an apartment and it's just him, like he is the only I mean, there's there's two other actors that show up in the last thirty seconds of the movie. Oh wow, really yeah, I mean it's all right. It's a really slow burn. It's just him going nuts locked inside of an apartment. Mum. It was not good. I was really looking forward to it, but it's not very good. I watched a movie last night while building a three D puzzle of Titanic. WHOA. That was fun. It was called Crep. What is it called See You Yesterday? It's what's called it's like back to the Future time traveling type movie, but it's uh, it's more like modern day politics, like um, you know, the abuse of cops and um violence and cities that kind of crap mainly about cops and because like literally somebody gets killed by police shooting again. Yeah, and then you have to go back and save him. It's just kind of that loop. But um, which was pretty good. It was, Yeah, it was. It was interesting. It's so back to the future. But it was not bad. But Michael J. Fox has a cameo. Oh really Yeah. Yeah, he's a teacher of the classmates that make the time machine. Yeah. That was fun. That's fun. He's just like time travel great Scott. I was like, wow, wow, real on the nose there. I also watched the Mario movie. Was that good? And I still haven't watched it. It's exactly what you think it is, Okay, I mean I'd watch it again. Like I wouldn't put it on, but like I wouldn't turn it off if it was on. Fair enough. I'm going to see Indiana Jones this weekend with my mom. Really, I haven't seen a I've seen it. I haven't seen a mom. I haven't seen a movie in theaters with my mom since. I think the last one would have been a Christmas Carol like Jim Carrey's one, the animated Disney one. I saw that, but I was only because I was going. We took my cousin. That's the only reason we went there. It wasn't for you, It wasn't for me. No, no, no, because when them be come out of twenty thirteen, so i'd have been like seventeen. Yeah. Old. It was good though, it's pretty scary because scary moments. But before that, I think it would have been Marley and Me, fucking Marley and me and we cried. It was like two weeks after my dog died. Too early in me, it was that like two thousand, like two two thousand and eight. Yeah, and then before that would have been Rob Zombie's Halloween. Then before that I c Literally it's like I could list them all out because it's been so few times I've gone to see movies with my parents. I've seen it like my brothers. Um. That was my brothers were just old enough that I could kind of go with them. Um, And I think before they would have been Spider Man. I think that's it. That's all I can remember, gugs. I remember going to see King Kong with my brothers. I remember see Freddie Versus Jason with my brothers, or no with with Brody and his dad when I was seven. Good times, good dads. Um. But yeah, so this is. Wow, my dad was gonna go, but my dad is. Here's a funny story that came about because I was like, wow, we never go to movies my dad. What do you think the last movie my dad has seen in theaters? Oh? God, throw on it. Throw on a guess it is relevant to this show. In other words, it's a horror movie kind of uh Rob Zombies, Halloween. No, he didn't go into that. It was just me my mom um, am I close in the year? No? Is it in the two thousands? No, ninety fucking nineties, dude, Bride of Chucky Bride, that's last time nineteen ninety eight, dude, the last time he's gone it because he always falls asleep. Before that, it was ghost Did he never go to the theaters? Man, Wow, he's just gonna keep the street I guess, so keep the street going. That's insane, though, Like, how do you go that long without going to see a movie? That's crazy. I mean he's got all the movies he can eat, and then if all movies Bride of Chucky. Like, dude, I was two, so I didn't go. So, like, no one had any motivation to go to that. You know, they didn't have the horror fan of the year trying to force him to go, So it'd have been my mom just dragged him along. Wow. Wow, who would have thought the Lord? Okay, well let's talk about today's extra topic and sidious chapter three, continuing our Insidious franchise reviews leading up to the fifth installment, The Red Door, which I finally saw a tiny teaser for. It was like ten seconds. I caught the end of a spot, a TV spot, so it was like, yeah, five to ten seconds. But I saw Patrick Wilson. He looks good. I thought I saw the chick from Stranger Things? Is she in that movie? I thought I saw her for a second. I don't know if there's any like casts announced except for the main the Core four. I thought. I thought I saw the girl that plays in Nancy. Oh that's something else I watched. I watched that Peacock Show. Um, I finished it based on true story. Yeah, yeah, ain't good. Yeah that's pretty good. I'm gonna watch it. It's not a who done it? Really, it's not. It's like literally like, hey, you're the killer be on our podcast. So yeah, I mean I watch it. Yeah, it was fun. Ends on a cliffhanger, and she's in it. We were talking about. Yes, that's why I came up. Yes, yeah, And then Kaylee Cuckole, Yeah, did I use her name? I think it's Goo. Yeah, what a cool name, Kayle. It looks like Quaco goose go. Uh. Yes, But I thought I saw her in the trailer, so I was a little confused. But then lipstick faced demons in there too, what I couldn't believe it. Wow spoilers. Well he's in this movie too. Wow spoilers. So first of all, I already have my first gripe. Is that damn title card again? I just it's so loud so I couldn't hear anything, And so I turn on my TV and also my goddamn ear like changes and I turn it down and then I can't hear anything again, and then I can turn it back up so I can hear the dialogue, and then I get wrecked with the same damn noise again. That's what I hate about these movies. So in my basement where I watched it, um, there is a little bit of a glare, but I thought I had gotten rid of it. When the title card came up, I literally couldn't see the eye and insidious. Is that just me? I don't recall that same experience, like because like it was, it wasn't the same as before. It was the middle eye. No, like the first eye. I don't think. I don't think that was the case for me. Maybe I'm just blind or my team he's broken. It was a little bit different this time around because it didn't like pop up. Its scrolled in and they were like pushed in from the camera, and it was a different color. It was like rusty or gold. Yeah, I guess, so maybe the glare was getting to you. Maybe, But there's a window behind me. Yeah, I got the shades closed. But like the sun's beaten right in. So there's always Glaire. You gotta be in an absolute pitch black for these movies. You really want to get in the moment. True. So this one's a little bit different, it is. Chapter three takes a turn because we're no longer following the Lambert family. We're following newbie whose name guess what, I don't remember it because she's irrelevant to me. It's Quinn. Oh, of course, Quinn. Quinn, Yes, Quinn. We follow her. She's a teenager. Her mom died recently, and so it's she's trying to find a way to reach out to her mom, and she reaches out to Elise. And this is a prequel, This is pre Lambert family. So Elise is alive and well. As a matter of fact, she's actually retired from the ghost hunting life after Josh. Yeah, is that is that clear? Is Josh like the last case that she did all those years ago? I don't know. No, no, no, no, I don't think so. Yeah, she at some point she just got sick of ghosts and demons and she retired. I think it was after her husband died Jack. I think that was the point. But yeah, she gets sucked back in by Quinn to help her with her mother at her issues. Well, they try to reach out when she goes and visits Elise. Elise tries to help her make contact and mother, but instead makes contact with an eve spirit and that spirit starts to cling on her demon it's not a spirit, starts to cling on to Quinn. And that's what motivates at least to come out of retirement. I guess I can come on a retirement. Yeah. And uh, beyond Quinn, we have her father, Dermott Moroney, Quinn's father again, Quinn's father again. That's fun. Wow, that's an intentional a little reference. It didn't Scream six, maybe had I don't know. That'd be a deep dive for real, that kind kind of a deep dive. Let's ask him, Let's ask radio silence. Hey, watching Dave Quinn? Yeah, Dermott, I forgot he was in this movie, completely forgotten to the last performance. I'm coming off of him and Scream six. I'm expecting some kookie shit. He's fine in this now he's he's fine, He's normal. Yeah, I mean he I hate it. I mean yeah. In Scream six, I mean he's he's he fully turned psychopaths. That's why he's a little I don't know why. It's a stroke to get the performance at this point. I know Dermott is probably not good at the end of Screen six, but this point I love it. So yeah, yeah, I don't know when to watch that? Not too late? Is there anyone else in that family that I'm just forgetting? They have a she have a brother? It was just her. No, they have a brother. What's the brother's name? Couldn't tell you, Alex, What the hell does he do? She wakes him up? I remember her, Yeah, I remember that. What happened to that kid? After that, he's around, What the hell is the point of even having siblings in these movies, because they're just gonna get tossed the side. No, he disappeared for most of the first and the entire second act, and then he's like, Okay, yeah, you're gonna go stay somewhere else for a while. He's not even in the third act at all, maybe just the beginning of the third act because he's the one, well he's the one who got specs and uh and Tucker there right, yes, and so he showed up for that and then well you're my hero and then okay, we're gonna do some stuff. You're gonna go stay somewhere else today. So yeah, I just got it completely free after that, like scene of him being woken up by Quinn, that was that was it for me and for totally his own their kid out for the rest of the movie wasn't around much. Yeah. But what makes this movie interesting, kind of more suspenseful where it can have these moments is that Quinn, after already awakening this demon, gets hit by a car, which I guess we're supposed to assume is the demon too. I don't know why they brought it. They brought it back up later that she was like immobilized intentionally, I was like, okay, yeah, sure, but yeah, so she gets just crushed by a car. I don't know where. It breaks both their legs and yeah, now she's just stuck in her room. She's unable to walk, and yeah, then demon shit happens. Yeah, the man who can't breathe, the man who can't breathe, Yeah, he's got so you get the gas masks dound the whole time. Yeah that's yeah, yeah, kind of scary, I guess. Yeah, it leads to suspense because you know that can get louder. You can if that sounds evening closer, it's getting scarier. Um. So, what I realized while watching this movie, I was so far in this frame. I haven't seen the last key yet, but this is definitely my least favorite of the first three. It's what I was realizing is that because director James Juan stepped down from this one and now it's Lee Wannell, who is the writer of all three films. Lee Wannel's his directorial debuts. You gotta kind of kint them a little bit of a slack, because for for a directorial debut, it's pretty solid. Well yeah, it's still it's like a fifty seven percent ron To me, it's six point one out of ten ninety. To be actually surprised, it's that high. It's that higher than two. I don't I hope not. I don't think so, but I don't know. It felt like the exact same scares, the exact same things we've already seen before, or but most of the time done at an inferior level. It felt like it just yeah, like I'm sitting there and I'm like, oh, okay, yeah, all right, Like at least in chapter two, I'm like, okay, that was supposed to be scary, and then chapter three You're just like all right, Yeah, it's just like I've seen all the exact same beat for beat scariest before. Yeah, to the point where like there are things in this movie that are starting to blend into the other movies because I'm like, man, wait, which which movie had that scar in it? Which movie had that scar in it? Because there's nothing very unique about any of it. Agreed, Yeah, it just wasn't. Yeah, I mean I guess you have a little bit more suspense than that one scene where the demon throws her out of bed, like her turn the neck and yes, and he's walking around shutting, turning the lights off, shuts the door towards the window, shuts the laptop like that was some en suspense there, and then he just kind of jumped on top of her and she screamed, and Dermott rain in, yeah, daddy, rain in, why is it man? We keep hearing about a lease and like, oh, this one's different, that it's that is literally I just watched a trailer for the Last Key as well, and Elise says like two lines in the trailer and it's it was, that's what you said. Well, this one's different because it's my family house. It's like okay, okay, yeah, it's all the But why is it that she all of her cases all involved the further. There's nothing that's just you know, regular old ghosties. It's all in the further. Well, it wouldn't be a fun movie, wouldn't. I don't know what it is, but anytime you go into the further, I just don't give a shit anymore. I can't explain that. I just don't care. I'm not invested in The Further, and I don't know why, even like in the first one, it's like, yeah, okay, I think it's a really interesting concept, but I just there's just something off about it. I don't know it. It's almost like every the thing that scares you in ghost movies is that it's there's potential that it could really happen. It's a kind of thing where it gets you a check in, you know, reflections in your windows and shit, and you're looking in the shadows of your own house because you're like there might be ghosties in there. When you go into something like The Further, you're so far away from reality that I'm not locked in enough where any of it scary to me. Yeah, I think that's what's happening. So even like with the Least, going to the Further, I just kind of tune out. It's weird, like nothing, no scarce can really happen in there that affects me, which sucks because that's you watch movies like Insidious to be scared. I mean, there's nothing, there's there's not a crazy story in here that's you know, you know, blockbuster worthy here. You want to be scared, and so the more time he's spending the further, I feel like the more I just get kind of out of it. I don't know, I feel I feel like a really scary and supposed to be impactful moment was when at least went into the Further and saw her husband and he said, just kill yourself. You know. Yeah, I don't think even non horror fans, even the teens that went in on a date to night, knew that that wasn't him, right, Why would he even be there? Does it make any sense? No? But I so that that's something that kind of confused me as well, though, So he was gone, I mean right, like she's never really been making contact with him this whole time, that she runs him in the Further and then all of a sudden he puts out a sweater for her when she's back in reality. Yeah, I don't know about that one. Chief, And and why is it why is a lipstick faced even pop up at the end for to I'm still here, motherfucker's But because I guess this is a prequel three years before she's out of retirement, So now hey, I'm back to terrorize the Lamberts because it's a prequel. But I'm in your house, but I mean you're half. Just the ending is so, it's such a forest little cliffhanger teaser. Yeah, I mean maybe the last key explains it. I doubt it. I don't even know when the Last key takes place. In regards to the first three movies, Um, the fam is cameoede, the Lamberts are all cameoed. Oh so prequel again, She's alive, right, I don't know. I would assume so the only thing I've seen is that one little shot of her, I guess in the further with the lantern, with the family behind, with the people behind her. Are you talking with the red door? No, I'm talking about the last key. Yeah, you described every single one of the movies. I'm not I'm particularly sure. Yeah, I just remember I've seen the chick with she has the nail and she puts the nail into the the ghost he puts her nail into the chicks throw it like the shape of a key. Yeah, No, I haven't seen that. Yeah, she puts she has her nails a shape of a key. She puts it into the chick's throat and it turns in it makes her mute. Oh yeah, that's cool. That's all I got. That's the whole that's the whole movie experience for me. So far, I haven't I haven't seen The Last Key at all. And then I've seen nothing about The Red Door other than a ten second like concept teaser with voiceovers from the family like spinning on the Door from Ages Ago. Yeah, that's all I've seen. Yeah, so so you know what, the one moment that where I was invested and I was like, oh, this is fun. This out is for like all these movies from me, when she's texting her little boy toy and they're knock they're knocking on the wall. I thought that was fun where it's just like I'm not home, I mean, predictable as hell, but of course, but yes, yeah it was. It was fun. Yeah, I could see how that would be impactful in theaters. I like stuff like that. It's I always, uh bring up the conjuring scene in the basement where it's right after she falls down the stairs, I think, and all of a sudden a ball gets thrown over some boxes and rolls to her. It's like that's scary. Yeah, and uh yeah, and Stephanie Scott, who plays Quinn, she did a really good job. Yeah, it's not like there's any bad performances. There's just nothing to really be invested in. Well, when did this movie come out? And she is in between our ages? Okay, she's turning twenty seven at the end of the year this year, so she would have been like seventeen. Yeah, seventeen year and this she did a really good job. Yeah, no complaints about performances at all. Yeah, it's just a story itself. Well, how did you feel so we get into the further we're falling a lease, how did you feel about like the Old Lady being back Parker Crane if you will, Yeah, I thought that was so forced for sure, Like I thought it, I will say so, I didn't really particularly like seeing Parker Crane again. I was like, okay, you're you're kind of hold us over with it's kind of like a nostalgic whatever that's called. Like, um, yeah, it's using nostalgia to make us feel better, but it's like that movie's only fucking five years old. It can't be that nostalgic. But I did like that we actually saw her dying, and so she got a look at her real death sitting in that chair being strangled by Parker Crane or Josh. That was the exact play out the I mean, her face was exactly the same, it's the same chair. Yeah. I was like, oh, that's fun, but not today. No. And then yeah, the man who cannot breathe all it was just that was it. That's all took. Yeah, that's it. I guess he had to let his guard down so she could be the one to pop it out. But yeah, alas you couldn't. You couldn't pull that out. Yeah, ages ago, for real, the movie would have been half halfway tone. Yeah, I wouldn't have to sit through this shit. So this is chapter three is second highest in the franchise via Rotten Tomatoes. So it's a it's above two. Yeah, I don't know, I don't So the first one is a sixty six. Two has a thirty eight, yeah, three has a fifty seven. Yeah, and then the last key has thirty three. Oh yeah yeah. Well I actually surprised this has a higher score than two. I just think it brings a little bit more originality to the table. But sure, and the ability to just focus on Lynn sche definitely helps, yes, because she she does she holds the reins here. She does make it like worth your time. Problem is just one thing that kind of kills me with a prequel like this is that we have to go on this whole thing a following a lease, and we know her journey to help, so I guess we're one. We absolutely know Elise it's not dying here because we know how else dies, So there's you don't have to worry about her character or at all. There's no risk for her. So then we're just focused on Quinn and because just you know, by procibillination here since like the least didn't quit after this, and she gets back into the business actually, and she's happy with with Tucker and inspects that she probably is successful here, so there's really just no stakes. He was kind of like, oh yeah, you're like, oh maybe uh maybe Daddy Dermott takes it takes a hit, but you could do that. But then her brother, well it killed the kid, Yeah yeah, I mean he wasn't around. They could yeah, told you'd forget about him. Yeah, yeah, yeah it was. Yeah. I didn't like it more than two No, I didn't, And I think that is purely just because of the Lambs and the performances. I mean, yeah, Patrick Wilson, although I didn't Quinn's fine. It sound like I don't like anybody in this movie. It's just you're already invested in the Lamberts, so you're really relying on Lynn Shade to kind of carry things, and she does fine. It's just, you know, like I said, no stakes, Yeah, I wonder. I wonder if they had the same kind of mentality here. We're like, Okay, you know, we're moving on. It's gonna be following a lease, and it's prequels because she's dead in the first one. We made that decision, so carrying on and doing different stories without the Lamberts, but focusing on a lease. And then they're like, oh shit, these movies suck. Well, I guess we're going back and ending it off with bringing the Lamberts back. Well, yeah, that's that's one hundred percent of what's happening. It didn't take off as much as it should have because they weren't made as well. Yeah, if the last key really delivers the that, if it really earns that percentage, it has a round tomatoes and it's gonna be rough to get through it. Yeah, I don't know. But it's so Lynn Shade gibe that bad? All right? What's the run time on the last key? What is the run time? One hundred and three? Oh, that's that's by the same of chapter three. It's just I mean they're all the same. Yeah, they're all buck forty. Yeah it and wait, what's the red door at? Does have it the Let me see it's on Wikipedia one hundred and seven. Oh, that's okay, that's exactly what in chapter three. That's interesting. Yea, hopefully it's good, but we got to get through the last key first. Yeah. Oh, I'm just kidding. It's longer. I did bad math because this one's ninety seven minutes, so quick watch. Oh yeah, it's the shortest one. Yeah. I don't know if it felt like the shortest one. Two felt shorter? Yeah, god, I feel like the first one feels as long as shit. It does, but it's only one oh two. Hm, you know, last keys one minute longer. It's probably gonna feel it's probably gonna feel forever. We'll see. I think it'll be that bad. So U we're all the story for a directorial debut. I think leewood Nell does a solid job here, and it's definitely a worthy and watchable horror movie. But it is just the same thing you've already seen. It's the same scares, very similar story. But if you really love Elise and you really love Lynn Shay, it's so worth your time. Yeah, it's better than your Annabells and the nuns out there. Yeah yeah. And James One is a cameo as a theater director. Fun and any Disney fans Lemonade Mouth, the friend was from Lemonade that's right, Yeah, yeah, yeah, or more importantly, the Cartoon Network Live Action Scooby Doo. That's right. Yeah, she's in. She's in this movie for about total screen time five minutes is the last time we see her on the skype call that'll happen with that? Whose call was? That could have a lot more fun with with her. She's pretty talented, she's all right, we didn't see any of her. I mean, she is one hell of a Elma and she is a greatly singer. Bass is she bassed his guitarist. I don't know what the hell is she doing Lemonade Mouth.
